چکیده

The aim of the research was to present current data on distribution and development some alien phytophagous insects in territory Ukraine. We considered 19 species insects, including 2 Coleoptera, 7 Hemiptera (including 4 bug species), Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera, 1 Diptera. Hyphantria cunea penetrated Ukraine about 70 years ago sometimes outbreaks orchards or shelterbelts. Cameraria ohridella Cydalima perspectalis pose a great threat Aesculus hippocastanum Buxus sempervirens, respectively, urban stands. Parectopa robiniella, Macrosaccus Nematus tibialis, Obolodiplosis robiniae did not attract attention researchers until recently, since show noticeable effect health condition Robinia pseudoacacia. Phyllonorycter issikii is abundant most parts Ukraine. platani Corythucha ciliata are serious pests because their host plant (Platanus sp.) rather rare Trichoferus campestris known long but has yet shown any harmful effects. from sucking (aphids bugs) increases due ability vector tree pathogens. polyphagous Halyomorpha halys can forest, ornamental agricultural plants. Leptoglossus occidentalis poses danger restoration Scots pine forests its feeding decreases seeds’ germination. arcuata found only two regions moving northward may oak Agrilus planipennis spread over several eastern border with Russia entire Luhansk partly Kharkiv region, inhabits Fraxinus excelsior F. pennsylvanica, move west.

Growth, Development and Yield in Pure and Mixed Forest Stands

Objective: Ecosystems with mixed species compared to the ones with pure compositions provide a broader range of options in the fields of biodiversity, conservation, protection and restoration. Nearly all forest plantations are established as monocultures, but research has shown that there are potential advantages to be gained by using carefully designed species mixtures in place of monocultures...

INTERSPECIFIC INTERACTIONS IN PHYTOPHAGOUS INSECTS: Competition Reexamined and Resurrected

This review reevaluates the importance of interspecific competition in the population biology of phytophagous insects and assesses factors that mediate competition. An examination of 193 pair-wise species interactions, repre senting all major feeding guilds, provided information on the occurrence, frequency, symmetry, consequences, and mechanisms of competition. Inter specific competition occ...

Transmission and retention of Salmonella enterica by phytophagous hemipteran insects.

Several pest insects of human and livestock habitations are known as vectors of Salmonella enterica; however, the role of plant-feeding insects as vectors of S. enterica to agricultural crops remains unexamined. Using a hemipteran insect pest-lettuce system, we investigated the potential for transmission and retention of S. enterica. Specifically, Macrosteles quadrilineatus and Myzus persicae i...

Olfactory Mechanisms of Host Selection in Phytophagous Insects

The most challenging tasks for phytophagous insects are the location and selection of mates, food sources, and oviposition sites, all crucial for survival and reproduction. To perform these tasks insects rely largely on their sense of smell (olfaction). I address how the insect olfactory system discriminates between components of complex odor mixtures, modulating behavior and fitness. I have st...
